Frequently Asked Questions

Camp oven kununurra

Q: Do I need to book in advance?

A: When it comes to places to eat in Kununurra, the Gourmet Camp Oven Experience is an extremely popular Kununurra 'restaurant' that can sell out in advance. Spaces are extremely limited for this Kununurra dining option so please book as soon as you know the date you can join us.

Q: Where do your tours depart from?

A: We are based in Kununurra, the East Kimberley, Western Australia and depart and return to Kununurra hotel accommodation and caravan parks only. Please note we are no longer located at Discovery Lake Argyle Caravan and Holiday Park.

Q: Are there vegetarian options for the Gourmet Camp Oven Experience?

A: Yes. For the entree we can swap the barramundi for grilled haloumi. For the main course we can swap the pork belly for a delicious camp oven pizza (wild hibiscus, brie and sunflower seed garnished with tomato and basil). The remainder of the dishes remain the same.

Q: I don't eat pork but still would like meat as my main course?

A: Not a worry, we can do you flame grilled chicken instead! Please make note of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Q: I would like to bring an infant/child under 4 years old, can they join us?

Yes they can! As every child is different, if your child is under 4, you can choose whether they partake in the four-course dinner or whether you would like to bring your own food for them/they can also eat off your plate. If your child would like to join in for the four-courses, they pay the price for a child. Children under 4 will need to sit on your lap for the drive to the dining location. Please contact us to let us know if you are wanting to bring an infant as the drive has a short bumpy section and music is played in the car. With notice we can also have a highchair ready for you.

Q: Do you cater for gluten intolerance?

A: Yes we do! We are a Kununurra food option that caters for all dietary requirements as best as we can.

Contact Us to discuss any other dietary requirements.

Q: Can we BYO drinks on the Gourmet Camp Oven Experience?

A: Yes. We provide one complimentary alcoholic ginger beer on arrival to enjoy as the sun sets. You are welcome to bring your own esky. Ice and water are provided.

Q: Is there much walking involved?

A: Walking is very minimal.

Q: Where is the food for your experience sourced from?

A: To capture the essence of Kununurra dining out you need to eat as local as possible! We love the supporting local businesses and their amazing produce. Each dish is designed with the Kimberley, bush tucker and the Ord River Irrigation Area in mind. A big shout out to The Hoochery, ORIA Orchards, Kimberley Beez Honey, Kimberley Marketing, Ocean to River Seafood, Ord River Mangoes, The Bushtucker Shop, Ord River Limes, Ceres Farms and Tenderspot Meat Company Kununurra.

Q: Do your tours visit Roy's Retreat?

A: Our past tour Beyond Argyle did, however Barbara at Roy's Retreat is currently putting most of her energy into her amazing projects at the retreat instead of tourism.

Q: What tour vehicle are we going in?

A: We have a comfortable and air-conditioned iconic orange Toyota 14 seater Arkana Troopy. You can't miss her!

Q: Are your tours seasonal?

A: Yes. We operate in the dry season between April and September when the Kununurra weather and Kimberley weather is perfect!
